Blackstrap molasses is a highly-concentrated, very dark molasses with a robust, somewhat bitter flavour. Like their fancy molasses, it is a pure product and contains no added preservatives.

Many people are fans of the stronger, more robust flavours and use it in recipes such as baked beans and gingerbread. In addition to its deep flavour, blackstrap molasses is recognized as a source of iron and calcium.

  • Blackstrap molasses is often used as a food coloring. Some people prefer the stronger flavor of blackstrap molasses when preparing baked beans or gingerbread. Blackstrap molasses is also known for its nutritional value and is a source of minerals including iron and calcium.

  • Molasses stores best at room temperature between 10°C and 21°C (50 to 70°F). The shelf life of molasses is usually one year, below 21°C, at a relatively stable temperature and humidity. Refrigeration or freezing can crystallize natural sugars and is therefore not recommended.
