Avril Data Protection and Privacy Policy

1. Introduction
At Avril Supermarché Santé (hereinafter “we,” “us,” “our,” or “Avril”), we respect the privacy of our current and potential customers (hereinafter “you,” “your,” or “customer”) and are committed to protecting their personal information. “Customers” are people who visit our websites, use our mobile apps, subscribe to our email communications, enter our contests, communicate with us, are registered or have applied for our Marguerite rewards program, or make a purchase from Avril online or in store.
In the interest of transparency, we’ve created this data protection and privacy policy to explain how we collect, use, store, protect, and destroy your personal information.
2. Personal information
Personal information is any information that directly or indirectly identifies an individual. Personal information includes, but is not limited to, name, email address, mailing address, telephone number, IP address, and browsing information (including cookies—see section 6).
3. Collection purposes
We collect your personal information to:
- Process information about your orders, purchases, rewards earned, and rewards redeemed
- Communicate with you about your orders and purchases and when you request information, in order to better serve you
- Contact you to deal with any complaints or requests you may have
- Establish and maintain business relationships with each of our customers and deliver our services
- Verify the identity of our customers where necessary or desirable for transactional purposes in order to reduce fraud and errors when processing transactions
- Ensure the security of our customers, staff, and third parties
- Design, improve, market, and deliver products and services that meet the needs of our customers
- Provide you with services, rewards, products, and benefits and allow you to enter contests
- Track and analyze your purchase history, shopping habits, account activity, and payment history for marketing analysis purposes and to present you with personalized special offers and advertisements that enhance your customer experience
- Communicate with you using the methods to which you have subscribed and consented, such as newsletters containing promotions, contests, exclusive offers, surveys, and other relevant services we offer
- Comply with the applicable legislative requirements
Avril does not collect personal information from customers for purposes other than those stated in this policy, except with additional consent or as required or permitted by law.
We also collect personal information from people who apply for jobs through https://avril.ca/en/recruiting, in person at a store, by email, or otherwise. We use this personal information only for the purposes of processing these applications and retain it for the period necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected or as required by law.
4. Consent
When using our website, you can choose whether or not to allow your personal information to be collected and used through cookies in accordance with this policy. You can do this by clicking “Agree” or “Disagree” in the pop-up window that appears when you first visit our website. You can customize or change your decision at any time by clicking “Consent preferences” at the bottom of the page.
Note that you can choose whether or not to allow optional cookies, but functional cookies are necessary for us to offer you our services and provide a stable and secure website.
5. Data sharing
We will not collect, use, or disclose your personal information without your consent, except as required or permitted by law. In some cases, your consent will be requested in writing; in other cases, your consent may be given verbally or by performing an action. Where your consent is required, we will provide you with details about the purposes for which the information will be collected and used and the circumstances in which it will be disclosed.
In certain cases and where permitted by law, we may share and transfer a customer’s personal information to an Avril store, third parties, service providers, or partners without notifying the customer or obtaining their consent.
Where we disclose personal information to third parties or service providers, these entities act as subcontractors to Avril and only use such information to carry out their duties or contract. We require these entities to keep your data confidential.
With your consent, we may provide third parties with aggregated or anonymized data that do not contain personal information or other personally identifying information. We may use third party partners—such as ad networks, social media, and other advertising companies—to display more relevant advertisements on our websites, applications, and other websites or applications to better understand the interests of our customers.
Avril will never sell or license your personal information to any third party without your consent.
6. Cookies and tracking technologies
Cookies: are small files that your browser stores on your computer when you visit our website. You can delete them by clearing your cache and browsing history. Most browsers allow cookies unless you choose to block them in your browser settings.
Tracking codes and/or web beacons: Our websites may also use tracking codes and/or web beacons. Web beacons, also known as pixel tags or web bugs, are small, transparent graphic images that allow us to record basic user actions in relation to our websites and the emails we receive to help us understand how our websites and communications are used and assess their effectiveness. These “images” are automatically downloaded to your browser or device when you visit a website or open an HTML-formatted email from us and allow us to know whether a webpage has been visited or an email has been read. Web beacons also allows us to know which pages you visit on our websites. Tracking codes help us optimize and adapt our website for you and future visitors.
Analysis: We also use third parties, such as Google Analytics, to collect and analyze information about areas visited on our websites (including most-visited pages, time spent, search terms, and other engagement data) in order to evaluate and improve the user experience and convenience of the websites.

When using our website, you can choose whether or not to allow your personal information to be collected and used via these technologies (see section 4).
7. Retention of personal information
Your personal information may be stored on our secure server, in the cloud, or outside Quebec or Canada, and may be subject to the laws of the jurisdiction where it is stored.
We retain user data for the purposes for which they were collected and for a specified period of time, after which they are securely destroyed, irreversibly erased, or made anonymous (see section 9). We may change the retention period for longer or shorter periods according to changing needs and any legal requirements.
We retain the transactional data of Avril customers used for pick-up and delivery orders placed online for two years after their last purchase unless they are a member of the Marguerite program. 8. Security measures
Access to personal information is limited to persons authorized by Avril who need it to perform their duties and for specific purposes. These authorized persons are required to keep personal information confidential.
We take reasonable steps to keep your personal data secure and protect it against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
We have proper physical, contractual, and technological security measures in place to protect personal information against loss, theft, unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use, and modification and use safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.
9. Right of access, correction and deletion
You have the right to access your personal information, correct it, delete it, and object to its being processed. To exercise these rights or for any other request relating to your personal data, please email our Customer Service Department at: [email protected].
Marguerite members may review the personal information held in their file, dispute its accuracy, and correct any inaccuracies. Members must call our Customer Service Department at 1-844-375-6446 or email [email protected] to review their file.
If a Marguerite member voluntarily opts out of the program, any unused Avril Dollars and rewards will be cancelled and the member’s personal information will be deleted.
Subscription to our newsletter is completely voluntary. By subscribing, you agree to receive it. If you no longer wish to receive it, you can unsubscribe by clicking the “Unsubscribe” link contained in every newsletter you receive.
You can change your consent preferences regarding the collection of your personal data through cookies and other technologies at any time. Simply click “Consent preferences” at the bottom of the website.
10. Updates to this policy
We may update this privacy policy at any time without notice. The date of the most recent update will be displayed at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy on a regular basis for any changes.
If changes are made and we need to obtain your consent again, the consent pop-up window will reappear on your screen when you visit our website.
