Do not use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or suffering from hyperhomocysteinemia. Do not take in the evening as the product may cause anxiety, agitation, and insomnia. Use is not recommended in children. If you are taking antidepressants, hepatotoxic drugs or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), consult your healthcare professional before taking SAMe as a replacement or supplement to your medication. Possible side effects include mild gastrointestinal disturbances (such as abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhoea and flatulence), anxiety, hyperactive muscle contractions, insomnia and hypomania. People with bipolar disorder (manic depression) should not use SAMe unless under medical supervision. For prolonged use or if symptoms persist, consult a healthcare professional.
