LOOP owes its success to its products (cold-pressed raw juices, smoothies, kefirs, beers and soaps) made from food rejected by the food industry. Read below for an overview of this local company that refuses the notion of food waste.
Did you know that because of the food industry's high quality standards, more than half of all food grown in Canada is thrown away and never reaches consumers?1 Since its very beginning, LOOP has chosen to adopt the principles of circular economy to counter food waste, by using rejected food and transforming it into sellable products. Here are the different product lines offered by this local company:
Raw juices: Made from imperfect fruits and vegetables, these unpasteurized, preservative-free juices are cold-pressed (a process that preserves all the nutrients and vitamins) and "pascalinized" (a technique that eliminates bacteria harmful to preservation).
Smoothies: Made with unsold fruits and vegetables, hemp seeds and pea protein, these nutritious smoothies are perfect for snacking on the go!
Water Kefirs: These fizzy, probiotic-rich drinks are made with boreal plant hydrosol (an infused, but overlooked, essential oil distillation water), fresh squeezed juices and bacterial culture.
Beers: Made with bakery-rejected bread and cold-pressed juice from neglected fruits, these fruity, festive beers promise to brighten up any party!
Soaps: To create these products, LOOP reclaims organic sunflower oil rejected from a vegan restaurant chain to make original fruit-scented soaps.
Some interesting figures!
