naturallyorganic, Avril’s home brand, is born of a deep desire to offer exclusive products of superior quality. Some are locally produced, while others have been carefully selected by Avril’s founders during their numerous trips abroad, where they seek to discover responsible and eco-friendly producers with high standards. This month’s selection: organic brown rice protein.
Simple ingredients
naturallyorganic brown rice protein comes in four classic flavours: plain, vanilla, chocolate and maple. It consists of only three ingredients of the highest quality: organic brown rice protein (extracted from raw whole grain rice and germinated by a natural fermentation process), guar gum and natural citrus pectin (two soluble dietary fibres). It is gluten, GMO, peanut, dairy and soy free.
The role of proteins
Proteins play a fundamental role in the proper functioning of the body, since they are the main components of cellular structures. Once ingested, they are broken down - thanks to digestion - into smaller molecules called amino acids. There are twenty different amino acids, nine of which are called "essential"; these are not produced by the body and must therefore be provided by food intake. Naturallyorganic brown rice protein provides these essential amino acids.
Why and how to eat them?
Proteins are also known to be essential nutrients for the development and maintenance of muscle mass. Protein supplements can be especially handy for athletes who practice intense physical activity or for anyone who simply wants to increase their protein intake.
Naturallyorganic brown rice protein can be taken in a variety of ways. It can be mixed with water, with animal or plant based milk, in a smoothie, in pancake mix or in various snacks such as energy balls, cookies, muffins and yogurts. The unflavoured version can also be added to soups and sauces.
It’s all about balance
Excessive intake of protein may cause, among other things, an overload of the kidneys. An average of 0.8g protein / kg of body weight / day is a good benchmark for "sedentary" people who do little or no physical activity. Otherwise, the quantities vary according to the physical activity level of each person, the type and brand of the protein supplement, etc. To ensure adequate intake, don’t hesitate to consult a nutrition professional.
