Three gluten-free alternatives to celebrate World Pasta Day!

As you may have noticed, more and more new and different products are offered in supermarkets every day. In the pasta department alone, we now find gluten-free, buckwheat, bean, lentil and chickpea pasta. Not to mention the DIY vegetable pasta that you can make at home! So why not take advantage of this World Pasta Day to try new alternatives? To inspire you, here are three kinds of gluten-free pasta that I particularly like (with, as a bonus, a recipe rich in protein and nutrients).

1 Bioitalia’s multigrain pasta

Not all gluten-free pasta are comparable to wheat-based ones. For having tried several, let me tell you that the Bioitalia brand is by far my favourite. You have to try them out!

2 King Soba’s 100% buckwheat noodles

If you prefer Asian to Italian inspired dishes, these noodles are a must! In addition to their high protein and fibre content, they can be served in both hot and cold dishes. I like to add them to my soups and vegetable stir-fries.

3 Explore Cuisine’s beans, lentils and chickpea pasta

Looking for extra protein? These pasta offer 11 to 18 grams per serving! However, I must warn you that they do not look like traditional pasta. Due to their composition (a mixture of leguminous flour and brown rice flour), they are more dense and tasty. Personally, I love to prepare them with a ton of vegetables and a basic sauce (pesto, tomato, etc.)

+ The "zoodles"!

Do you know about the "zoodles"? These are zucchini noodles that are made using a spiralizer, a small instrument that cuts the zucchini in a spiral shape. A very interesting option for those who wish to eat more vegetables, to reduce their intake of starchy foods or simply to lighten their meals.  Zoodles can be accompanied by a traditional spaghetti sauce or one of my favourite primavera sauce recipes. Start by cooking all the vegetables (eggplant, zucchini, broccoli, mushrooms, peppers, onions, etc.) in a pan with olive oil and garlic. Then add your favourite tomato sauce (for my part, I like any the Bioitalia ones). Top it off with crumbled goat cheese and voilà!   I hope this article made you want to try out new kinds of pasta! If there are products that you have tried and loved, do not hesitate to share them by commenting here below. I am always curious to read your comments and try out your gourmet discoveries!
