Hawthorn, or rather the flowers of the hawthorn, are valued for their qualities as controling heart rates, improving coronary circulation and feeding the heart muscle. It is a hypotensive, cardiotonic, and an antispasmodic, calms palpitations, reduces stress and aids sleep, thanks to the flavonoids, sterols and triterpenes contained in the plant.
Non-toxic, an excessive doses could have a depressant action on the heart and could make liver's cell damage. We must avoid too prolonged treatments and take intervals of rest.
