It is an inexpensive, synthetic lab made chemical (not found in nature) that contains cyanide. The reason it’s used is cost. Cyanocobalamin can cost as little as 1% of the cost of better forms of B12. Most importantly, Cyanocobalamin cannot be used by your body. It requires no conversion, so if you take 1000mcg your body receives 1000mcg active B12. There is no potency loss, and it is better absorbed. Active B12 remains in the body for longer and at higher levels than cyanocobalamin, which means that your body gets more B12 for a longer time.
