Vitamin D3 is well known for its benefits on bone density and calcium metabolism in general, but its roles in the body are much more numerous. It plays a crucial role in the functioning of the immune system, but also important functions for muscle cells, brain function and cell differentiation (Afshan et al, 2021). Vitamin K2 plays an important role in bone health and the cardiovascular system. Although vitamin K2 is not documented as a vitamin of significant deficiency in the population, it also does not pose a risk. Health Canada has not established a tolerable upper intake level (intake above which side effects may be observed). Thus, higher levels of vitamin K2 provide valid benefits, especially for bone and cardiovascular health, and toxicity is zero (Schwalfenberg GK, 2017).
